Easy Atom Model

*Warning - I received an A on this project but was marked down because the electrons were only a little bit smaller then the neutrons and protons.

Recently, I had to make an atom model for year 8 science and I struggled to come up with ideas for how to make it. I surfed the internet for ideas and I didn't really find anything particularly helpful so I'm going add my thoughts.

What I used:

  • Glow-sticks (it is really helpful if the glow-stick connectors have holes in them for the wire)
  • Small pins
  • Big pins
  • Blue tack
  • Wire
The amount of all materials needed depends on which atom you're making and how big you want your model to be.

*Warning x 2-  Be careful with the glow-sticks.
  1. Carefully, cut the ends of the glow-sticks and let the juice inside, come out.
  2. With as many glow-sticks as you'd like, form two separate circles (depending on how many orbits your atom has).
  3. Using the wire, tie the glow-sticks together so that the model appears like a sphere.
  4. Make a small ball with the blue tack and stick the big pins into it to represent the protons and neutrons, the pins should only be two different colours.
  5. Tie two pieces of wire to the blue tack ball and tie the other ends to opposite glow-stick connectors.
  6. For the electrons, stick the right amount of small pins into the orbits and cut off the sharp ends of the pins, using pliers.
  7. Also, if you'd like to, you can make a base for the model by sticking blue tack to the bottom of it.
I hope this is helpful.

America Trip

This image declares my trip to America. And a virtual guide to all the places I want to go.
